The
militant Yoruba nationalist organization, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC)
has warned the Presidency to keep a close eye on Major Hamza
al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to late Head of
State, Gen. Sanni Abacha.
In a statement by its Co-Ordinator in Osun State, Mr. Oyeyinka
Awoyemi and Secretary, Mr. Waheed Olaniyan, OPC noted that despite being
discharged and acquitted of complicity in the murder of Alhaja Kudirat
Abiola, Al- Mustapha should be kept under constant surveillance.
“Though the judgment of the Appeal Court, sitting in Lagos, has
exonerated him, it must be noted that the case was not diligently
prosecuted.
“However, woe betides whoever can kill the body but not the soul.
Though killed, the spirit of (Alhaja) Kudirat Abiola will continue to
demand justice even beyond this realm.
“We are now sounding a serious warning to the Federal Government not
to allow al-Mustapha to go unwatched as he is capable of returning to
his vomit. At least, it is said that the leopard never changed colour,”
the group said.
On the purported encroachment of Boko Haram into the South-West, OPC
expressed its preparedness to confront the dreaded Islamist sect just as
it said it was ready to collaborate with the police to combat
terrorism.
