UK Donates Forensic Equipment To EFCC

EFCC
The United Kingdom, through its Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), Thursday, donated sophisticated forensic information technology equipment to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, as the anti-graft agency continues combating financial crimes in the country.
Following an initial assistance of the UK government, the commission has commenced a full digital forensic analytical work and with the latest donation, the forensic analytical capacity of the commission would be further enhanced.
Disclosing this in Abuja, spokesperson of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwijaren said the equipment were formally handed over at the commission’s headquarters by the Team Leader, Governance and Social Development, UK Department for International Development (DFID), Mr. Oliver Blake, to the new Secretary of the commission, Mr. Adegboyega Aremo.
Speaking before the presentation, Blake highlighted the importance of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment in combating criminal activities, noting that the equipment would improve the commission’s forensic capabilities.

Teacher Arrested For Having Regular s*x With Students (PHOTO)

A 31-year old woman now faces 16 felony counts for alleged séx crimes involving five students.
Summer Michelle Hansen, a former special education teacher, has been charged with séx crimes involving five underage boys, all students at the Southern California high school where she once taught.

Hansen, arrested in June, is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday on 16 felony counts, including unlawful séxual intercourse with a minor, unlawful oral copulation with a minor, and sending harmful matter to a minor. If convicted, she could face up to 13 years in state prison.
In a statement released Tuesday, the Riverside District Attorney’s Office said the alleged crimes took place between May 2012 and May 2013, and occurred “in her classroom, in a utility room at the school, in her vehicle while parked near one victim’s home, and at another victim’s home.” None of the victims were students that Hansen taught.
Hansen’s attorney has maintained her innocence, and claims that the former teacher had her phone hacked, according to the Corona Press-Enterprise. Court documents obtained by the newspaper tell a different story.
According to a Corona police declaration, one of Hansen’s victims told a detective that the teacher had sent him “inappropriate text messages suggesting séxual contact” that culminated in the teacher offering him séx as a prize for doing well in a baseball game.
An investigation of Hansen was launched in June after a former student at Centennial High Schoolcame forward and told officials that he had a séxual relationship with the teacher.
According to the Press-Enterprise, that student “told police that while he was 18 and after he graduated, Hansen would send him séxual text messages and cellphone photos that showed her in her underwéar. The former student also said two underage boys told him that they had had séx with Hansen.”
During the course of their investigation, the police identified multiple victims under the age of 18.

Major Earthquake Felt Across New Zealand

quake New Zealand
A powerful earthquake rattled major cities across New Zealand on Friday, terrifying residents and causing the capital Wellington to shake “like jelly”, but authorities reported no major damage.
The 6.5-magnitude quake struck at 2.31pm in the Cook Strait, the US Geological Survey said. It was felt from Christchurch in the South Island to Auckland in the North Island.
The USGS, which initially measured the quake at 6.8 magnitude, said it hit five kilometres east of the town of Seddon at a relatively shallow depth of 9.9 kilometres, close to the centre of a series of quakes last month.
A cluster of major aftershocks measuring up to 5.7 followed but no tsunami alert was issued.
The tremor caused a violent jolt in Wellington, where office workers dived for cover under their desks.
“Lots of aftershocks. ‘Beehive’ wobbling around like a jelly, but all OK,” Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce tweeted, referring to New Zealand’s distinctive parliament building in the capital.
Local resident Juli Ryan tweeted: “That was pretty wild, I was sitting in my parked car watching buildings shake like leaves.”
There were reports of power cuts to areas of the South Island, and Wellington’s airport was briefly closed to check the runway for damage.
Train services were also stopped in case rails had buckled in the quake, but police said they had received no reports of significant injury or damage.
Lifts were out of action in some office buildings and, as the aftershocks continued, many businesses sent their workers home early on Friday afternoon, causing large traffic jams in the capital.
“This area in particular is very active in the last couple of months. This is a continuation of that activity,” a seismologist from Geoscience Australia told AFP, noting that a 6.5-magnitude quake in the same area on July 21 had caused damage.
There have been hundreds of aftershocks since the July quake, with residents fearing a repeat of a devastating quake that hit Christchurch in February 2011, killing 185 people.
Wellington was the scene of the country’s most powerful earthquake in 1855.
That 8.2-magnitude quake caused four deaths and changed the city’s entire geography, pushing the shoreline out 200 metres as it thrust the harbour floor upwards.
New Zealand is on the boundary of the Australian and Pacific tectonic plates, forming part of the so-called “Ring of Fire”, and experiences up to 15,000 tremors a year. [AFP]

UNBELIEVABLE: HIV Positive Mother Convicted Of Having s*x With Friend’s Children (PHOTO)

candance-morris-hiv32-year-old HIV-positive Cincinnati woman, Candance Morris who pleaded to four counts of unlawful s*xual contact with two minors will only serve one year in prison, the Cincinnati Inquirer reports.
Candance Morris faced more than 30 years behind bars, when she stood before Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge Melba Marsh Monday.
The actions that lead up to Morris’s conviction still shock the other moms in the East Price Hill neighborhood with whom she lived and socialized regularly. When the mothers in the neighborhood needed someone to watch their boys, Morris often volunteered.
But on New Year’s Eve, Morris, a mother herself, slept with two teens of two mothers she knew very well. “We were going to church and she knew that and she blew my phone up (asking) to bring my baby over,” the mother said. It was big mistake.
Morris spent the day smoking marijuana, drinking a half-gallon of vodka as well as beer and champagne. She ended up getting in bed with two boys, having s*x with them at the same time. The s*x romp was kept secret until Morris got into a fight with one of the boy’s mothers and shouted–in a profane matter–that she had bedded her son.
During her sentencing, she expressed regret for her behavior. “I apologize for the pain that I caused and I know my actions were irresponsible,” Morris told the judge, blaming “my bad habits” for the incident. “I would never have done it intentionally.”
Morris could have served 30 years in prison for her actions, but her guilty plea reduced her sentence significantly. She also told the judge that the boys took advantage of her sexually while she was passed out. The teens have been tested for HIV and results have returned negative so far. They are tested every six months and will have to be for some time.
One of the mother’s said Morris’s actions hurt her dearly. “I cared for her. I cared for her son,” said the mother of one of the 14-year-olds Morris abused. “I feel like she planned and plotted. I feel betrayed.”
Morris will have to register as a child s*x offender for 25 years when she is released from prison. She has already given up custody of her child.

Woman With Cocaine chest Implants Arrested In Spain

police and Immigration officers around the world may start having to feel women’s br**sts during airport checks as a woman has proven drugs could be transported through implants.

Spanish police on Wednesday arrested a Panamanian woman who landed in Barcelona from Bogota, Colombia with cocaine stuffed inside her chest implants.
The woman was taken to the police at Barcelona’s El Prat airport after her vague answers to questions about the reasons for her trip from Bogota raised suspicion at the border control, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.
Spanish authorities carry out rigorous checks of passengers arriving on so-called “hot flights” from Latin America, to fight drug smuggling.
When border police discovered fresh scars and blood-stained gauze on the woman’s chest she was taken to a nearby hospital to check her claim that she had recently undergone chest implant surgery.
The implants were found to carry 1.38 kg of cocaine. [Reuters]

Tales of Prostitution, Drugs From Kuramo Village

Kuramo village fell to ocean fury and the rage of the Lagos State government last week. But tales of prostitution and drug peddling which defined its exixtence have come to the fore, as insiders recount, reports SAMUEL AWOYINFA
Kuramo Beach, to its residents, is escapism of some sorts. Besides its regular occupants, prostitutes and drug peddlers see the place as haven for their operations. It was like an island on its own.
For those who wanted to ‘feel high’ on illicit drug, Kuramo also gave them that illusion of being on top of their world. Kuramo offered unending music, blaring from speakers of numerous drinking joints that lined the ocean front.
But the music stopped early hours of Saturday, August 18, around 3:00am, when ocean surge, entombed a large section of the shanties and cabins. It was not only the shanties and cabins that fell casualties, about 16 persons were also swept away by the ocean rage.
By Sunday, the picture became clearer, as government agents moved in, and demolished the remaining shanties. As a result, the residents have scattered. But some of them still wished it were a bad dream that would soon go away. They were seen on Wednesday still hanging around the Kuramo Beach extension.
Some of them lived there for over 10 years, and for those in this category, it is difficult, having another place to call a home. One of them, who pleaded anonymity, said Kuramo though offered them a shelter; it also played host to a lot other negative indulgences.
According to him, over 50 per cent of the inhabitants were prostitutes and they were the main attraction, given the number of men who trooped in, mostly at night.
He said, “The prostitutes are the main attraction in Kuramo village. They were there in all shapes and sizes. From 8:00pm, men would start arriving. Some after gulping some bottles of alcoholic drink, would face the commercial s*x workers.
“Besides prostitution, drug also came handy here. Whatever it was you wanted. Is it marijuana or crack (cocaine)? They were available. A pinch sold for N250, a wrapper of marijuana is N50. Again, there was another form of marijuana, which a wrap sold for N200. That one was the concentrated type.
“And for those who wanted to enhance their s*xual performance, there were those who sold the local aphrodisiac called Bura ntasi.”
This source who spoke fluent English, said the prostitutes who lived inside the cabins, where they paid between N800 -N1000 daily, depending on the size of the room, were however, conscious of being infected with HIV/AIDS, as they insisted their clients must put on condoms. But he however, added that they had perfected some tricks, in which they swindled some unsuspecting clients.
The source said,“These prostitutes had agents, and the agents normally lurked around. As soon as any man entered the room with any of them, he would be asked to hang his trousers by the window. As soon as the client got carried away by the s*xual ecstasy, the agent stealthily picked the trousers from outside, and emptied the money and valuables therein.
“Many patrons of prostitutes here had lost their valuables in that manner”. According to him, the prostitutes charged between N500 -N1000, and all depending on negotiation skills of the client.
“Kuramo ran on 24 hours basis, it hadly went to sleep.”
One of the former inhabitants, Mr. Samuel Adebayo could not be bothered about s*x hawkers and their antics.
His concern was where he would start his tailoring business again. Having lived in Kuramo for over 10 years, and being thrown out under three hours, had left him puzzled for now. He was among those seen at the Bar Beach sea front, about 100 metres from Kuramo, on Wednesday.
He denounced the claim of the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure that they were given four days notice.
“I had lived in Kuramo Beach for over 10 years, it was not true that there was any notice. It was on Sunday (August 19) morning that the DPO of Bar Beach police station led his men to this place and told everyone to come out.
“We were given only two hours to pack our belongings. How many things could one pack in two hours? So, some of us only took a fraction of what we have, before the caterpillar moved in,” he said.
He recollected that there were about 110 cabins, and they paid for everything there. “There was no water, no toilets and no bathrooms. We bought water at the rate of N50 per bucket. To bath, one would pay N100, and to use the toilet, it attracted N100.”
On his own part, Mr. Laja Obasi, who said he was a security man at Kuramo, also said he lived there for almost 11 years, and he was almost regretting it.
Obasi who explained that he earned N3,000 per week, stressed that his fear was how to get another job.
Himself and his colleagues were for now, living at the mercy of friends and passers-by. He moaned, “I’m still fit to work as security man, but who can employ me?” He suffers a limp in one of his legs.”
Another former resident, who simply preferred to be addressed as Prince, said he was a tourism promoter at the beach front, and all that had gone with the wind. Dressed in a jeans trousers and ash-coloured sweater, he said he was in the business of making those who visited the beach comfortable, providing them good drinks and accommodation.
As at Wednesday, Prince was still in a quandary about the way forward. “I really want to retrace my steps by going back to God in a seven-day prayer and fasting,” he began. “After that, I will now decide what next to do. I have two options -either to raise money for my young wife to start business, because I had been the one shouldering the family’s burden or buy a car which I will be using to do kabukabu.”
The commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure, Mr. Olusegun Oniru, who visited the site on Monday reiterated that a four-day warning was given to traders and residents. He said, “It is not that we waited for this disaster to happen before we started acting. We gave them a four-day warning of the looming ocean surge and high waves but they wouldn’t listen. It is rather unfortunate that they waited for nature to force them out.”
Oniru added that the state government was faced with an Herculean task, because some of the residents, had no place to go. Some have constructed some shanties, directly in waterfront at the Bar Beach, and inside and outside where they kept their wares and personal effects.
Besides, some traders who were equally dislodged displayed their wares inside their buses and cars.
While most of the residents and traders ruled out compensation of any kind, some of them were still bogged down by uncertainty of their future.

A police officer, Mr. Raphael Ezechi, told a Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, at the resumed hearing in the killings of four University of Port Harcourt, UNIPORT, students in October 2012 in Omuokiri, Aluu community, that a dog was used to torture the students before they were set on fire.
Mr. Ezechi of the State Criminal Investigative Department and a Deputy Superintendent of Police, led in evidence by the Solicitor-General of Rivers, Mr. Rufus Godwins, narrated that “a team of policemen from Isiokpo Division was dispatched to the scene of the incident to rescue the students but due to the distance, the students were set ablaze before the arrival of the police.”
The witness, said he took photographs of the deceased and a dog, said to have been used to torture the students, adding that information was also gathered from the Internet which were recorded.
The defence counsel, however, objected to the prosecution’s move to tender the photo evidence as exhibits, contending that the police officer was not the maker of the said documents.
The defence argued that no proper foundation had been laid for the admissibility of the photographs, urging the court to reject same.
Responding, Mr. Godwins, the prosecution counsel said that the foundation was laid from records of proceedings by the court and urged the dismissal of the objection, which he described as misconceived by the defence. [Vanguard]

What Is Wrong With This Photo (Anti-Cheating Helmet)

In an effort to curb rampant cheating Bangkok's Kasetsart university has created an anti-deceit paper helmet for students to wear during their midterm exams. The device, which resembles horse blinders made out of computer paper, was unofficially unveiled on an alumni Facebook page.  Shortly after being uploaded the photo was quickly taken down, but not before the student, Thanut Udomhirun, captured a screenshot of the helmets in action.  It's not clear how many classes use the device or how long the university has taken such extreme measures. Also in addition to the helmet, there were two versions of the test given out to student.

We want Christian Lagos governor in 2015 — Cleric

The Director of Civic and Political Affairs of the Diocese of Lagos Mainland of the Anglican Communion, Governor Raji Fashola Venerable Folarin Shobo, has urged Lagos residents to vote in a Christian as governor of the state in 2015.In a statement on Friday, Shobo said Lagos residents could not afford to continue with the present political arrangement whereby political officers were largely people of a particular faith.
While noting that Governor Raji Fashola has done well in improving on the infrastructure of the state, he said, “It is time for power to shift in the
state. It is time for us to have people who will continue to rule with the fear of God and respect for the rule of law.
“There is a strong need for genuine internal democracy among the parties that will produce a credible candidate come 2015.”
Shobo urged Christians in the state to show interest in partisan politics, saying Christians who have a flair for politics should get ready for the 2015 elections.
He however noted that getting political power was not a do-or-die affair, but that Christians need to change the political status quo in the state.
He said, “It is not fair to have a government that is largely tilted to people of a particular religion. Christians over the years have been magnanimous enough. We have worked for people who are not of our faith and we have supported them to be in government. It is now time for us to come out and take the bull by the horns.
“The battle for Lagos State will not come easy. It will take patience, perseverance and strong will. It will take fasting and praying and it will take the readiness of men and women who have interest in politics.”
Shobo argued that politics and religion go hand in hand and called on church leaders to begin to sensitise their members to take up the gauntlet and vie for political positions in the state.
He said it was unfortunate that none of the five people being tipped to succeed Governor Babatunde Fashola is a Christian.
“Asking for a Christian governor in Lagos State at this time is not out of place. It is long overdue and it is time we began to do something about it,” he said.

Lagos Bans Keke Marwa from Victoria Island, Ikeja & Other High Ways

Recently, rumour was rife that the state government was set to ban tricycle operators, otherwise called “Keke Marwa,” from the roads following their recklessness. However, the state government debunked the allegation. According to them, Section 3 of the Lagos Road Traffic Law 2012, which says, ‘No person shall ride, drive or propel a cart, wheel barrow, motorcycle or tricycle on any of the routes specified in Schedule 11 of this Law, restricts motorcycles and tricycles from 475 roads out of 9100 roads in the state including highway and bridges.

Tricycles and the use of unpainted vehicles were, of recent, restricted on Victoria Island, Government Reserved Area (GRA) Ikeja and Ikoyi due to request from residents as a result of the threat that tricycles and unpainted vehicles posed in, the area and the increase in the number of armed robbery attacks.

Recently, they invaded Victoria Island axis and were asked them to leave. The reason was that some people are financing those tricycles.
